Range Of Buildings Attached To Hertford Cottage

The range of buildings attached to Hertford Cottage is a Grade II listed farmbuilding complex located on Main Street in Staxton. It dates from the late 18th century, with earlier origins and 20th-century alterations. The structure is made of whitewashed chalkstone on a sandstone plinth, featuring whitewashed brick arches and a pantile roof. This single-storey range has irregular quoins at the left end and an elliptical arch towards the right end, which contains double board doors. At the right end, there are inserted openings with 20th-century fixed windows, located to the right of a part-glazed door, both framed by brick arches. A reset datestone inscribed with "1719 WC" is positioned towards the left end, and there is a raised eaves band. The roof is hipped at the right end, and there are no openings in the right return. This building is included for its group value, while Hertford Cottage itself is not considered of special interest.
