Description
The Staxton and Willerby War Memorial is a war memorial dedicated in 1920. It features a stone column topped with a cross, set on a stone podium. The materials used include ashlar gritstone with inset polished granite panels.
The memorial has a square base and a hexagonal shaft. The slender hexagonal shaft supports a Latin cross, which has limbs that end in shallow pyramidal caps. The shaft is mounted on a square ashlar pedestal that has chamfered upper corners and a hexagonal upper surface. This pedestal is raised on a square podium with two steps. The front panel of the pedestal is inscribed with the words: "REMEMBER / THE MEN OF WILLERBY / WHO DIED FOR / KING AND COUNTRY / 1914-1919," while the two side panels list the 14 individuals from the parish who fell during the war.
