Description

Two cottages, dated 1730, with alterations from the late 19th century. They are built of squared rubble stone with stone dressings and a stone slate roof. The cottages have a gabled end facing the street. Brentwood End Cottage, on the left, has an entrance with a moulded surround and a dated lintel inscribed 'P/RJ'. It now has a door from around 1970. To the right of the entrance are a double-chamfered three-light mullioned window and two similar two-light windows on the upper floor, all with 20th-century casements. No. 3 Cottage is in a similar style, but was restored in the late 19th century. It has a plain surround to the right-hand entrance, with a circa-1970 door. There is one double-chamfered two-light mullioned window to the left on each storey, with 20th-century casements and sashes. Shaped modillions decorate the eaves. The right-hand gable end and left-hand ridge have stacks. The interior of Brentwood End Cottage is reported to contain an oak staircase, oak panelled doors, and two large stone fireplaces. A small, oak-panelled wall cupboard with the date 1730 is also present.
