Description
The ice house, located approximately eighty metres north-east of Old Lodge on the Kirby Hall Estate, dates from the 18th century and underwent restoration in the 20th century. It is constructed of red brick and features a barrel-vaulted tunnel that leads to a circular ice chamber with a domed roof, which is sunk into the ground. Originally, the ice house was entirely covered with earth for insulation.
