Description

Old Lodge is a lodge built in the early 19th century, with a 20th-century rear extension. It is likely designed by Robert Lugar for R.J. Thompson. The building is constructed from limestone ashlar and features a slate roof, while the porch has a stone slate roof. It is designed in a picturesque style and is a single storey with a one-bay front that includes a pedimented projecting porch. The porch has a round-arched opening made of voussoirs beneath a hoodmould supported by foliate stops. There is an unglazed round-headed opening on the right side of the porch. The entrance features 6-panel double doors set within a square-headed fluted surround, complete with angle roundels, located inside the porch. Each side of the building has a round-headed, radial-glazed window with a replacement small-pane casement, set in a round-arched recess with an archivolt of voussoirs. The windows have painted stone sills. The eaves are overhanging and supported by heavy brackets, leading to a pyramidal roof. The rear extension is not considered to be of special interest.
