Description
The statue and its surrounding pool, dating from the 18th century, are located approximately 4 metres south of the Orangery at Norton Conyers House. The statue features a lead figure of an African man in a feathered skirt, positioned on one knee and holding a multi-faceted sundial on his head. This figure stands on an ashlar pedestal that is about 1 metre high. The pool itself is circular, lined with ashlar blocks, and measures approximately 2.5 metres in diameter. On the north side of the sundial, there is a painted inscription that reads 'per W. Freeman' and 'MDCCX...'.
