Description
Nos 8 and 9 Westgate are mid-19th century buildings that feature a front elevation added to an earlier house. They are two storeys high with attics, constructed from coursed stone with ashlar dressings, and have brick on the sides. The roof is made of pantiles and includes two dormers. The right gable has a stone coping. A moulded stone eaves cornice with ornamental brackets runs along the top. The windows are arranged in a 2-1-2 pattern, with the end windows paired and all being round-arched, featuring console keystones. The central window has cill tabs. On the ground floor, there are two narrow canted bays topped with carved parapets. The building has two arched doorways with key stones and pilasters, along with a central segmental-headed carriage entry that also has a console keystone.
These buildings are part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 22 (consecutive), 23A and 23B, and Nos 24 to 29 (consecutive), as well as several others of local interest.
