Description

The buildings at 7 and 9 Town Street, Old Malton, are a pair of houses dating from the mid-19th century. They are constructed of red brick in an English garden-wall bond, set upon a stone plinth, with sandstone dressings. The rear elevation is of coursed sandstone. The roof is slate, with overhanging eaves supported by shaped brackets, and a central brick ridge stack set diagonally.

The front facade is two storeys and two windows, positioned between two recessed bays, each with one window and two stories in height. Replacement doors are located in each end bay, within square-headed doorcases featuring quoins and a shouldered arched opening. The ground floor windows are two-light casements with painted stone sills, and are protected by square hoodmoulds. The first-floor windows are casements within gabled half-dormers, with painted stone sills over shaped aprons. The side bays have oculi windows on the first floor, featuring square-pane glazing within quatrefoil frames. A raised band of two brick courses marks the first floor level.
