Description
The bench at the west end of Statue Walk in Newby Park is a mid to late 19th-century structure designed in a neo-Classical style. It is made of ashlar and has a curved shape. The plain seat is supported by five brackets and is backed by a low wall that features piers at each end. The wall includes a tall central panel with a pediment, showcasing classical detailing. This panel has three pilasters with recessed panels, flanked by S-scroll foliated brackets that support an entablature topped with a segmental corniced pediment. The pediment contains a circular plaque with a profile head, surrounded by foliate scrolls. Additionally, the two panels between the pilasters are adorned with detailed carvings of swagged fruit and flowers. This bench is included for its group value.
