Description
The Whispering Seat, built around 1822, is a stone garden seat located in Wilton Park. It is one of several curved stone benches that were likely designed by Sir Richard Westmacott or Wyattville, taking inspiration from a similar seat at Dropmore. The seat is large and semi-circular, supported by fluted columns, and features large scrolls at each end. The back is high and panelled with ashlar, topped with a moulded coping that returns on each side, and is flanked by two panelled piers that support vases. The seat is accessed by a series of wide, shallow steps, which are enclosed by a formal layout of yew hedges, with narrow steps on either side.
