Description
The urn and pedestal located to the north of the east end of Statue Walk in Newby Park were created in the late 19th century, possibly by the architect William Burges for Lady Mary Vyner. Made of stone, the overall height is approximately 2 meters. The square pedestal is cushioned out at the base, while the urn features a fluted stem and is intricately carved in relief with acanthus-style motifs and swags. The lid of the urn is similarly decorated and topped with a bud finial. William Burges was involved in designing elements for the south garden in the 1870s, which included vases or urns.
