Description

This is a terrace of three cottages located on the south side of High Street in Snailton. They were built in 1733, as indicated by a datestone, although the cottages have been altered and extended since then. The cottages are constructed from coursed rubble sandstone with a slate roof and brick stacks; one stack has been rebuilt. The facade is two storeys high with a two-window arrangement. Each cottage has a four-panel door. The ground-floor windows to the left-hand cottage (No. 41) are 2-light horizontal-sliding sashes. The centre cottage (No. 42) has a replacement small-pane casement window on the ground floor, while the right-hand cottage (No. 43) has a small-pane fixed light. The first-floor windows are 2-light, 12-pane horizontal-sliding sashes. Painted flat arches feature above the ground-floor openings of the left-hand and centre cottages, while thin timber lintels are present above all other openings. A datestone is positioned above the door of the centre cottage, inscribed "C R M 1733". The ends and the left side of the building feature stacks.
