Description

Hill Crest is a house located on the north side of High Street in Snainton. It was built in the late 18th century, with alterations made in the early and later 19th century. The house is constructed of dressed sandstone, featuring a brick extension, a pantile roof, and brick stacks. It has a central-stairhall plan that is 1½ rooms deep, with a rear service extension. The building is two stories high and has a three-window front.

The central entrance door consists of four raised and fielded panels above a diagonal cross panel, topped with an overlight and sheltered by a bracketed canopy porch. The windows are 16-pane sashes with painted stone sills and tripartite lintels. The eaves are stepped, and the gables are coped with shaped kneelers. There are stacks at both ends of the house.

Attached to the front wall is a garden gate and railings, which feature turned standards and urn and spearhead finials. Inside, there is an open-string dog-leg staircase with a moulded, wreathed handrail that ramps up at the landings, along with stick balusters, a turned newel, and shaped tread ends. The ground-floor room on the front right has a panelled and shuttered window recess.
