Description

These are two buildings, numbers 17 and 18 Castlegate, likely dating to the 17th or early 18th century. They are constructed of painted, coursed stone with a pantile roof and three brick stacks. Number 17 features two modern windows with wooden lintels, one hung sash window with glazing bars and a wooden lintel, and a small window with a lintel and keystone. A plain, modern door is set beneath a lintel and keystone; the ground floor is rendered. Number 18 has two sliding sash windows with wooden lintels, and a small modern window on the upper floor. The ground floor of number 18 displays one sliding sash window with a wooden lintel, one modern window, and a small window, all with wooden lintels. A plain wooden door is set beneath a wooden lintel. Numbers 8 to 19 (consecutively) and 14A form a visual group with the nearby Friends' Meeting House, and number 8 holds local interest.
