9/55 Stable Courtyard approximately 75 metres to north-west of Bolton Hall

GV II

Stables, coach-house, dog kennels, front wall and pump. Early C19. Rubble with stone slate roofs. 2 storeys; central range 3:3:3 with flanking wings at right angles. In centre, coach-house with quoins and three 4-centred- arch openings of rubble voussoirs. Above, window openings with cambered arches of rubble voussoirs, 6-pane sash, 12-pane unequally-hung sash, 6-pane sash. End stacks. To left, on ground floor: board door below 4-pane overlight in ashlar surround, 2 part-shuttered windows below cambered arches, stable door in ashlar surround. On first floor; part-shuttered window; 5-pane Diocletian window; 12-pane unequally-hung sash window. Hipped roof to left. To right, the same, except that Diocletian opening is boarded. Left wing, right return; ground floor: board door below 4-pane overlight in ashlar surround; part-shuttered window; stable door in ashlar surround; part-shuttered window; board door below 4-pane overlight in ashlar surround. First floor: three 12-pane unequally-hung sash windows. Hipped roof to left. End stack to right. Right wing, left return; ground floor: stable door in ashlar surround; 2 coach-houses; stable door in ashlar surround. First floor: 12-pane unequally-hung sash window; boarded pitching door; 12-pane sash window. Hipped roof to right. End stack to left. Attached to ends of wings, dog kennels: single storey, of quadrant plan. 2 doorways and 2-light window between, all with ashlar surrounds. Front wall of rubble, with ashlar coping. In centre, 2 ashlar gate-piers with ball finials. Cast-iron pump adjoining inner side to left.
