Description
Preston Mill is a mill-house and corn watermill, built in 1784 and now converted into two dwellings and a farmhouse. The structure is constructed of rubble stone with slate roofs. The house and mill are set at right angles to each other.
The house is three storeys high with three first-floor windows. A rear wing extends from the main block. The central entrance has a board door within an ashlar surround, which features rounded inner corners to both the lintel and the imposts. Most window openings are topped with monolithic lintels and contain 20th-century casement windows, except for the original 3-light side-sliding sash window in the top right-hand corner. The house has shaped kneelers and ashlar copings, with stacks positioned at each end and between bays two and three. A kneeler on the front left-hand side is inscribed “IRI:H. 1784”.
The mill projects to the right and is also three storeys high with three first-floor windows, along with a two-storey extension to the front. It features four-pane sash windows, shaped kneelers, an ashlar coping, and an end stack to the front.
