Description
The Keldheads Lead Mine Buildings, dating from the mid-19th century, are now derelict and include a former chimney, engine house, stables, and stores. The buildings are constructed of rubble. The chimney has a square plan, stands approximately 12 metres high, features a circular hole at its base, and has a cornice at the top. The large engine house is partially below road level and has round-arched openings. There is also an adjacent stable and stores building with a timber roof structure. The engine house was originally used for a pumping engine in the lead mine shaft. After the closure of Keldheads Mine in the late 19th century, the buildings were repurposed for use by a nearby quarry, with the chimney later serving a coal-fired electricity generating plant.
