Description
32 and 34 Newbiggin is a presbytery and house, now used as a convent, built in 1878. It was possibly designed by George Goldie. The building is constructed of coursed rubble with ashlar dressings and features slate roofs with coped gables and kneelers. There are two gable stacks, quoins, and flush ashlar bands.
The street front has a three-storey facade with four windows. An off-centre doorway with a shouldered surround and overlight is located to the left, flanked by two plain sash windows. To the right, there are two narrow sash windows separated by a buttress that supports a square oriel window above, which contains two sashes. To the left of the oriel, there are three pairs of narrow sashes. Above, there are four sashes, each with a single ventilation slit in the gable.
The west front features a three-storey, two-window block to the right, with a central doorway in a pointed arch surround, complete with a fanlight and a wooden gable porch with bargeboards. To the left, there is a small sash window, and to the right, a square bay window with two sashes, along with a canted bay window above. To the left, there is a pair of sashes, with a smaller pair above, and to the right, there is a datestone. The north side has a lower two-window block, which includes a through eaves gable dormer to the left.
