Description
Farnhill Bridge 183A is a road bridge over the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, constructed around 1770 to 1773 when this section of the canal was built. The engineers responsible for its design were James Brindley and John Longbotham. The bridge is made of coursed dressed stone, which is rock-faced below the level of the parapet. It features a single semi-elliptical span with a towpath and has swept wings that end in piers. The bridge includes hammer dressed voussoirs and arch soffits, along with a squared string course and squared coping that has a slight ridge.
