Description

No 2, 2A and 4 Cheapside, along with No 38 Gracious Street, are two or three houses that have been converted into three shops. They likely date from the 17th century, with alterations and subdivisions from the 18th and 19th centuries. The buildings are timber-framed and constructed of stone, topped with a pantile roof that has an eaves course of stone slates. They are situated on a corner site with an L-shaped plan, featuring two storeys. There are six first-floor windows facing Cheapside and three facing Gracious Street.

No 4 Cheapside, located on the left, has a 20th-century glazed door in the center and a bay window with 20th-century frames to the left, extending up to the first floor. On the right, there are two casement windows, one with two lights and the other with three lights, on each floor. A stack is present on the left gable.

Nos 2 and 2A Cheapside feature glazed doors at the center and right corner, along with two four-light plate glass shop windows that have 19th-century surrounds and cornices. The first floor has a two-light casement window in the center, flanked by three-light casements, and there is gable coping to the right. End stacks are also present. On the right return, there is a 19th-century shop window with a four-pane side-sliding sash above it. Further to the right, at No 38 Gracious Street, there are board doors to the left and right, with three- and two-light casements, and a ridge stack to the right.

Inside, the ground floor features main posts that support the ceiling beams and joists. The first floor and roof were not inspected during the resurvey.
