Description

Nos. 6 and 7 Market Place are a building with 17th-century origins, significantly altered in the 19th century. The building is three storeys high, with the upper two floors projecting over timber beams. The front is rendered with chamfered quoins. The Market Place elevation has two windows on each storey, with part-sliding sash windows and glazing bars. The ground floor features a shop front with 19th-century sash windows. A half-glazed door is located beneath a rectangular fanlight. The Church Street elevation has a tiled ground floor with a small shop window featuring modern glazing. A panelled door is present, also with a small rectangular fanlight. There are two windows to each storey on the Church Street elevation, with wood frames and no glazing bars, along with a small window located between the storeys. The building is built into the side of No. 148 Church Street, bisecting a gable with kneelers. As noted, it is closely related to Nos. 148 and 149 Church Street. The listed buildings on Market Place and Clothing Factory, Sandgate are considered to form a group.
