HORNBY HORNBY Sarcophagus approximately 5 metres north-east of chancel of Church of St Mary

GV II

Memorial. Early C19. For the Duke of Leeds. Sandstone ashlar. Rectangular in plan, in section tapering towards the bottom, with raised panelled top. Longer sides have a fielded panel, that on east side bearing inscription commemorating Stephen Walton d1817 and Martha Greaves d1820, "Good & faithfull Servants at Hornby Castle", flanked by fluted pilasters. Shorter ends have a smaller fielded panel flanked by fluted pilasters.
