Description
This is a very large and elaborate sarcophagus tomb located about 14 meters south of the north west gate in the churchyard of the Church of St. Mary. It dates from the mid-18th century and is made of limestone. The tomb features a tall double-stepped base with a tall moulded plinth and a gadrooned acanthus carved sarcophagus that has a bellied profile. There are remains of paired cherub heads in the center of each long side. Above the sarcophagus is a second moulded plinth with two Corinthian half-capitals positioned back to back against plain inscription panels, which are now completely eroded. Originally, there was an 8-point gadrooned finial at the top, which was found lying on the north side of the base during the survey in October 1984. The base is breaking up badly.
