Description
The grave slab and sarcophagus, located immediately to the south of the first bay of the nave of the Church of All Saints, features a possibly medieval sarcophagus and a grave slab dated around 1743. The sarcophagus is made from a single piece of ashlar stone, tapering towards the foot and broadening at the shoulders, while narrowing at the head with an inner recess for the head. The grave slab serves as a memorial to Mary Hirst and Richard Hepworth of Heath, a yeoman who died on April 21, 1743. It displays well-crafted lettering and is topped with carvings of winged heads.
