Description
The entrance gateway to Sharlston Hall, likely from the 17th century, is constructed from sandstone ashlar. It features an inner pair of piers that are approximately 0.75 meters square and 4 meters high, adorned with moulded cornices and prominent moulded caps topped with low moulded pyramidal pedestals that support ball finials. The outer pair of piers measures about 0.5 meters square and 2.5 meters high, with moulded caps and obelisk finials. All piers have scrolled consoles on their outer sides. Notably, the northern main pier has been repaired with three courses of new masonry and is pointed.
