Description
The bridge and boat house with an associated basin at the east end of the Lower Lake is an 18th-century structure made of sandstone ashlar. The oval basin is approximately 20 meters across and features an outlet sluice at the east end. At the west end, there is a private road bridge that has a single segmental arch, which is adorned with rusticated voussoirs and a raised keystone. This bridge is flanked by channelled piers and includes a roll-moulded band and chamfered coping. The coping supports ornamental railings with fleur-de-lys heads, which alternate between wavy and straight designs, and have open-work standards over the piers. The entrance to the boat house is located on the south side and matches the style of the bridge, although it does not have railings. The rear of the boat house features a modern lightweight roof above an earth-covered vault.
