Description

No. 19 The Green is a farmhouse that has been converted into a house, dating from the 17th and 19th centuries. It is constructed from coursed squared sandstone and coursed sandstone rubble, with some brick, and features roofs made of Welsh slate and stone slate. The building has a T-plan layout, consisting of a 19th-century two-unit front range and a 17th-century rear wing.

The front block is two storeys high and has two bays, displaying an almost symmetrical design. It features a doorway that is offset to the right of centre, with a plain surround, and two windows on each floor, all with nine panes. The lower windows have sliding sash openings, and the gables are adorned with copings and gable chimneys.

The rear wing, which appears to have served as a storage area for an earlier house, has on its left (west) side one recessed four-light mullioned window on each floor, with the lower window blocked and both featuring hoodmoulds. The rear gable includes a similar two-light window on each floor, with the upper window restored, both having straight dripmoulds, and a small inserted window above the upper one. The east side of the building is covered by a modern addition.

Inside, the rear wing contains a storage basement with inserted brick partition walls. The room above is unceiled and features a king post roof truss braced to the ridge, along with two pairs of purlins and a former tie-beam incorporated into the masonry of the gable wall. The recently added east wing is not included in this listing.
