Description
The Wilson Mausoleum, located to the northeast of All Saints Church, was built in 1912. It features polished granite with ashlar and cast iron elements and has a rectangular plan. The main east front is accessed by three stone steps and showcases three deeply moulded round arches supported by four polished granite Doric columns, with a central cartouche. The rear west front is identical but lacks steps. The side fronts to the north and south are similar, featuring a wider and higher central arch. Between the columns, there are ornate cast iron railings with double gates leading to the central eastern arch. The mausoleum is topped with a shallow arched rectangular dome that has four deeply moulded stone ribs on each side and three polished granite roof panels in between, finished with a central urn finial.
Inside, the mausoleum has a ribbed polished granite vault with moulded internal ribs and a pendant central boss. There is a white marble kneeling angel, carved and signed by Gaffin of Regent Street. The interior also contains three white marble tomb slabs dedicated to Henry L S Wilson, who died on 28 March 1912; Henry Smythson Lee Wilson of Crofton Hall, who died on 7 November 1921; and Elfreda Francis Wilson, who died on 22 January 1922.
