Description
The Grove is a house dated 1740, marked as Grove House on the Ordnance Survey map. It is constructed of rubble with a stone slate roof and has two storeys and four bays, along with a rear right wing. In the third bay, there is a six-panel door beneath an overlight, set in a moulded stone surround that features a pulvinated frieze and cornice. The house has sash windows within moulded stone surrounds, although the first bay is blocked due to the addition of a canted bay window on the left return. A stone cornice with a cyma reversa section is present, along with ashlar copings and ashlar stacks at the ends and between the first and second bays, and the second and third bays. The building has only been known as Grove House since the renaming of Thornburgh House.
