Description

The steps and walls leading to the churchyard of St Mary's Church date from around the 15th century, with later features added in the 18th century. The church steps extend from St Mary's Street, serving as the main southern approach to the church. At the top, the steps divide into ramps and steps at right angles. Below, a stone retaining wall runs along the churchyard, which includes brick gateways at the top of the steps along St Mary's Walk and continues along Church Lane. This wall serves as the platform for the church. The gates are made of wrought iron and are flanked by brick piers from the 18th century.
