Description
No. 45 Market Place is an 18th-century building that stands two storeys high, constructed from coursed stone with a pantile roof featuring stone-coped gable ends. The building has rusticated quoins and is a corner block with two facades. It includes three windows with stone lintels and keystones, although these are partly obscured by a fascia. The shop front, which dates from the 19th century, has plain pilasters. An old stack is located on the gable end. The elevation facing Birdgate has three windows, with the center one blocked, and features a wrought iron sign bracket. The ground floor has two windows and a panelled door.
This building is part of a group that includes Nos. 15 and 16, 16A, 17 to 23 (consecutive), 33 to 38 (consecutive), and St George's House, along with Nos. 40 to 48 (consecutive). Notably, Nos. 16, 17, 19, 23, 25, 35, 36, 38, and 47 and 48 are recognized as buildings of local interest.
