Description
The Black Swan Hotel, located at 18 Birdgate, is a building from the 18th century or earlier. It is two storeys high and constructed of painted coursed stone, topped with a pantile roof featuring stone coped gable ends and kneelers, forming an L-shaped structure. The hotel has two later dormers and a 3-light window, along with two additional windows set in shaped stone surrounds from the 19th century, situated above a canted bay and a doorway that is flanked by lights and two windows with stone lintels. The wing to the right includes one window on both floors on each face, featuring a triple keystone on the lintel, except for the side ground floor window which resembles those of the main block, being from the 19th century and having a lintel and tabs to the cill. The Black Swan Hotel is part of a group with Nos 1 to 9 and No 12, as well as Nos 14 to 19 on Birdgate.
