Description
The Church of St John is a mid-19th century church located on Back Lane in Acaster Selby. It is built from hammer-dressed stone with ashlar dressings and features a plain tile roof. The church has a four-bay nave with a south porch and a two-bay chancel that includes a north-east vestry, all designed in the Gothic Revival style.
The south porch features a double-chamfered, pointed-arched opening with a hood-mould. There is a plank door with a moulded surround beneath a hood-mould that has headstops. The chancel includes a priest's door on the south side, which is a pointed plank door with a chamfered architrave and a hood-mould. The windows are mainly two-light with Decorated tracery and hood-moulds, while the east end has a three-light window. The gables are topped with ashlar coping, and there is a bellcote on the west gable. The roof is set at two levels.
Inside, the church has a plain interior that features some late 19th-century stained glass, including a window with glass by Mayer and Lo of Munich and London, as well as a 19th-century octagonal font.
