Description
Stillingfleet House is a house built in the late 18th to early 19th century. It is constructed of gault brick with ashlar dressings and has red brick extensions on the left and right, which are not of particular interest. The roofs are made of Welsh slate and corrugated asbestos. The house has two storeys and three bays, with a recessed single-storey, two-bay wing to the right, following a central staircase plan.
The garden front features a plinth and three steps leading up to a six-fielded-panel door beneath a fanlight with glazing bars, all set within a Doric doorcase. This doorcase has pilasters that support an inner arch with a fluted keystone, and columns that support an open segmental pediment. The windows include 16 and 12-pane sashes, except for the outshut to the left which has casements, all under wedge lintels with fluted keystones. There is a first-floor band across the central three bays, and an oculus in the tympanum with four keystones. The cornice features a dentil pediment, although the moulding is missing. The roof is hipped, with front and side stacks.
At the rear, there is a staircase window that is a 16-pane sash with radial glazing at the top. Inside, there is an openwell staircase with turned balusters and a wreathed handrail. The ground floor room to the right has a double dentil cornice, while the rooms to the left and right feature moulded alcoves and marble fireplaces. It is reputed that the house was built for a daughter of the owner of Moreby Hall.
