Description
Lakeside Folly is a structure located within the Moreby Hall Estate, built around 1832 and incorporating elements from the 14th century. It is constructed of magnesian limestone ashlar with some brick patching and features a Gothic design. The building is oblong in shape and consists of one tall storey.
On the right side, there is a chamfered plinth topped with narrow angle pilaster buttresses that have pinnacles. The central entrance features a four-centre-headed arch with roll-moulding and chamfered jambs. Above the entrance are three heraldic shields.
On the lake front, similar pilaster buttresses are present at the ends, with two pointed windows beneath flat heads that include trefoils in the spandrels and badly-eroded tracery. At the rear, there is a window with reticulated tracery. It is believed that the windows were salvaged from York Minster following the fire of 1829.
