Description
Stillingfleet Bridge is a Grade II listed bridge built in 1826, located on York Road. It is constructed from sandstone ashlar and features a single round river arch supported by voussoirs. The bridge is flanked by slightly projecting full-height pilaster buttresses. It has a four-course parapet with rounded coping and splayed ends that lead to rounded piers at the approaches, which include a cast-iron lantern base. There are two plaques on the bridge: one commemorates the erection of two lamps in 1902 for the coronation of Edward VII, and the other honors the memory of a great flood on March 22, 1947, acknowledging the assistance provided by Captain R. Boyle and Mr. A. Elliot and his crew, noting a water depth of 21 feet during the flood.
