Description

This is a mile post located outside Burniston, dating from the mid-19th century. It is made of cast iron and painted white, featuring relief lettering in black. The mile post has a triangular plan and displays the following inscriptions: "LONDON 218" on the upper face, "THIRSK 1" on the north face, and "YARM 19" on the south face. It was manufactured locally at the Norby foundry.
