Description
Oldfields is a house and mason's shop consisting of three parts, located on the north side of Hovingham Brookside. The main house has two sections from the mid-18th century, with earlier origins and a mid-19th century date, while the mason's shop was built in the late 19th century. The earliest section is on the left, followed by the later section in the center and the mason's shop on the right. The early section features an outshut at the rear that connects with Pelican Cottage.
The left section is a single storey with an attic and has one bay. The central section is two storeys high with one bay. The mason's shop is a single storey. On the left side, there is a four-panel door with a recent bow window to the right and a casement window in the gablet above. The central section has 16-pane sash windows, with the ground floor window featuring a chisel-tooled wedge lintel. The mason's shop has two boarded openings. The central section has end stacks. The early part of the house was originally the hall of a hall and cross wing house, of which Pelican Cottage serves as the cross wing. This building is included for its group value.
