Description

Fern House and Fern Cottage are a house and cottage, probably dating from the late 17th to early 18th century, with alterations from the early 19th century. The buildings have a roughcast exterior and a pantile roof. The main house, positioned to the right, has two storeys and a 1:3 window arrangement on the first floor. It features a central 20th-century part-glazed door in a deep ashlar surround with a cornice, and 16-pane sash windows on the ground floor. The first floor has a 16-pane sash window alongside two sash windows with glazing bars, all with projecting ashlar sills. Brick end stacks are present. To the left is a former cottage, with a 20th-century door with a timber cornice on the ground floor to the right, and two 16-pane sash windows on each floor to the left. Raised verges and a rebuilt brick stack to the left end are noted. A bay with a board door leading to a passage is located on the ground floor to the right. The buildings are included in the list for their group value. Rear outshuts, with an irregular plan, are present.
