Description

Orchard House is a farmhouse, now a house, dating from the early to mid-18th century. It is constructed from coursed and rubble sandstone with clay pantile and stone slate roofs. The building has two storeys and a loft, featuring a three-bay section on the left and a two-bay section on the right.

The main house on the left is made of coursed stone and has a plinth and quoins. It features a central six-panel door set in an ashlar surround, with four-pane sash windows in ashlar surrounds, which are slightly smaller on the first floor. The roof is covered with clay pantiles, with stone slates at the eaves, shaped kneelers, and ashlar coping. The end stacks have been rebuilt.

To the right is a lower service range made from rubble, with quoins on the right. The ground floor includes, from the left, a blocked chamfered ashlar doorway and a 16-pane sash window in an ashlar surround. On the first floor, there is a four-pane sash window in an ashlar surround, and the roof is covered with stone slates, featuring ashlar coping on the right and a 19th-century ashlar stack at the right end.

At the rear, the windows have ashlar surrounds; on the ground floor, there are two small windows in the centre flanked by 16-pane sashes, and a central staircase window with a keystone. On the first floor to the left, there is a 16-pane sash window with an extended lintel to its surround. The left return has a 16-pane sash window in the gable, while the right return features two 16-pane sash windows in ashlar surrounds.
