Description
This building, located at 1 Market Street in Malton, is a house that has been converted into a shop. It dates from the late 18th century and has undergone some alterations, including a 20th-century shop front. The structure is made of coursed squared stone and features a moulded timber eaves cornice, with a brick stack at the left end of the pantile roof. It is two stories high with an attic and has a two-window front. The shop front, which is from the 20th century, includes pilasters and a cornice, with a central door situated between "Gothick"-glazed shop windows that rest on panelled risers. The first-floor windows are 12-pane sashes with painted sills. In the attic, there are two inserted gabled dormers with barge boards, each containing large-pane sliding sashes. This building is included for its group value with other nearby structures.
