FOUNTAINS EARTH BOUTHWAITE Bouthwaite Grange and Grange Cottage

House. 1673 with later alterations. Coursed squared stone, ashlar, graduated stone slate roof. 2 storeys, scattered fenestration. 5 bays. Central board door in chamfered stone surround with basket-arched lintel inscribed "RI 1673". To right-hand bay a board door set in a chamfered stone surround with 4-centred arched head. To its left a double-chamfered 4-light mullioned window with hoodmould. To right of central door a chamfered single-light window, to its right a 2-light double-chamfered mullion window with hoodmould. To left of central door a 2-light and a one- light chamfered mullioned window. 2 similar windows above. Similar single window over central door, 2-light double-chamfered mullion window with C17 and C18 leaded glazing to right and C19 four-light double-chamfered mullion window beyond to right. End stacks. Garden front of 5 bays with central board door in chamfered surround flanked by one single-light and two 2-light double-chamfered windows to either side. Above door raised stone plaque flanked by similar windows in same arrangement as below. Interior: good C17 oak staircase, oak doors with early ironwork. C17 panelling and stone fireplaces. Originally a grange of Fountains Abbey.
