Description
Gouthwaite Farmhouse is a 17th-century farmhouse that was rebuilt and relocated in 1900. It is constructed of coursed squared stone and ashlar, topped with a graduated stone slate roof. The building has two storeys with attics and features three bays. The central gabled bay projects forward, with a board door to the right set in a chamfered stone surround, featuring a four-centred arched head and a hoodmould. To the right of the door is an eight-light chamfered mullioned and transom window, also with a hoodmould. The outer bays have four-light chamfered mullioned windows, each with hoodmoulds. On the first floor, the central bay has an eight-light chamfered mullioned window with a hoodmould, and above this in the gable is a similar four-light window. To the right, there is a three-light chamfered mullioned window. The farmhouse features kneelers, stone coping, and a large ridge stack on the left, along with a large external offset gable stack on the right. The original 17th-century building, known as Gouthwaite White Hall, was moved from the valley during the construction of Gouthwaite Reservoir and was rebuilt as two houses.
