Description
Number 3 (annexe to Unicorn Hotel) and Number 4 Market Place is an 18th-century building located on the east side of Market Place in Ripon. The structure features either grooved stucco or painted ashlar and is topped with a slate roof. It stands three storeys high and is distinguished by a moulded modillioned wooden eaves cornice and a blocking course. The building has four bays with cased sash windows. Number 3 includes a simple mid-19th century wooden shopfront with two Tuscan pilasters and a moulded cornice. In contrast, Number 4 boasts a more elaborate late 19th century shopfront, featuring fluted pilasters, a door set in a recessed porch with five moulded panels and an oblong fanlight, as well as a shop door in a recessed porch between plate glass windows, with glazing bars that extend upwards to create a floral motif.
