Description
41 and 42 Kirkgate is a building from the mid-19th century, although it may be older. There are hints of timber-framing in the passage entrance on the east side. The building is constructed of brown brick and has a pantiled roof with a coped gable. It stands three storeys high and features paired brackets at the eaves. The front has two bays, with cased sashes on the second floor. On the first floor, there is one tripartite sash window and one canted wooden oriel window with depressed arched sashes, which have ornamentation in the spandrels. The shopfronts include panelled pilasters and scrolled consoles supporting the fascias. At the rear, the building has three bays, which include one staircase window, one cased flush-framed sash with glazing bars, and the remaining windows are cased Yorkshire casements with glazing bars.
