Description
Number 42 Market Place is a building with a mid-19th century front that likely covers an earlier house from the 18th century. The exterior is roughcast with a slate roof and stands three storeys tall. It features a moulded wooden eaves cornice and has two bays with cased sash windows. The building has raised quoins and a notable mid-19th century wooden shopfront, which includes five segment-headed bays with guilloche-patterned voussoirs. These bays are separated by panelled pilasters that have richly moulded consoles supporting a moulded and dentilled entablature, which is decorated with four wreaths on raised dies.
Inside, there are various early 19th century doors and an early 19th century staircase with slender moulded balusters.
