Description
Numbers 36 (The Royal Oak Public House) and 37 on Kirkgate date from the late 18th century or early 19th century. The buildings are roughcast with a slate roof and rise to three storeys. They feature a modillioned and dentilled eaves cornice, as well as continuous sill bands. The façade has five bays with sash windows. The round-headed door has six sunk panels, moulded voussoirs, and imposts, set in a wooden frame with panelled pilasters, scrolled consoles, and a modillioned and dentilled triangular pediment. Number 37 has a mid-19th century shopfront that includes grooved pilasters, moulded brackets, and a moulded cornice topped with ball finials.
