Description
Copt Hewick Hall is a country house dating to the late 18th century, with additions from the 19th century. It has an ashlar plinth, rendered walls, and a stone slate roof. The house is two storeys high, with six windows on the first floor, arranged in three bays and defined by giant Tuscan pilasters. Two curved stone steps lead up to a central double door, flanked by unevenly-hung 15-pane sashes, all sheltered by a verandah with a lead roof and supported by wrought-iron pillars. Matching sashes are located on the far left and right. The first floor features sashes with glazing bars and a shallow wrought-iron balustrade across the lower part of the windows, along with projecting stone sills. A dentilled eaves cornice and a blocking course are positioned between the central pilasters. The roof is hipped, with stacks grouped along the rear ridge. The rear elevation has a large central Venetian sash window with glazing bars and fan decoration above the central light. On the right return, a two-storey, two-bay section incorporates a service range to the right. The first bay has a sash with glazing bars to both ground and first floors, with a wrought-iron balustrade across the upper window and a square blind recess above. The second bay contains similar ground- and first-floor windows within a tall round-arched recess, featuring projecting sill bands. A blind stone balustrade runs under the eaves. The interior was not inspected, but is reported to contain contemporary doors and fittings.
