Description
Springfield House is a country house dating from the early 19th century, with alterations and additions made around 1860. It is constructed of Doulting ashlar with a low-pitched slate roof, bracketed eaves, and ashlar stacks. The front facade is classically styled and symmetrical.
The main facade is two storeys and three bays, featuring sixteen-pane sash windows in reveals, and panelled corner pilasters decorated with a Greek key design. The central door is set within a portico with a dentilled cornice and a flat entablature supported by Tuscan columns and pilasters. The portico has later glazing, and double half-glazed doors open to a six-panelled inner door.
Around 1860, the right return was rebuilt in an Italianate style. This section has a 1:2:1 bay arrangement with sashes set in architraves. The openings in the central bay are connected by a false balcony with pierced balustrades at sill level.
