Description
Sundial Cottage is a 17th-century cottage that has undergone several alterations. It features a swept pantile roof on two levels, with raised verges that have ashlar coping and shaped kneelers. The building has end and central stacks, with the left stack made of stone and the others of brick. The layout is a central hearth-passage plan, and the cottage is two storeys high with four first-floor windows. There is a 20th-century glazed door set in a chamfered, quoined surround, topped with a Tudor-arched chamfered lintel. The windows are double-chamfered, with sliding sashes added; the two right bays have 20th-century replicas of the originals. To the left of the entrance, there is a fire window with an oculus above it. A sundial dated 1699 is positioned above the entrance. At the rear, there are four two-light windows with chamfered mullions. Inside, the ceiling joists feature chamfer stops, and there is a salt or spice cupboard set into the wall south of the fireplace.
